I collect all types of figures. Sometimes they come together across various lines in ways that make me smile. Hope it makes someone out there smile too.
In the category of things you didn’t even know you wanted yet, fast food chain Sonic is putting Sonic Tots starring the Justice League into their kid’s meals now. As a parent of small children and a collector,I know it’s pretty rare that Sonic ever has anything good in their kids meals. I had seen stuffed dinosaur tots last year which I thought were cute enough. But when my kids brought this pair home the other day,I definitely had a hankering for a burger.
One of the main toys I always wanted as a kid but never had was this baby…a Hot Wheels Knight Industries Two Thousand. I had a black Firebird that I would use as a fake but it was never the same. Without the red LED bar on the front,it just wasn’t the same. As a child of the ’80′s,KITT was THE vehicle of choice, probably even over the Adam West Batmobile. The Batmobile couldn’t keep you company on a long drive. And I still like to imagine using the turbo boost to avoid sitting at train crossings.
The Avengers movie figures have hit Toys R Us as of this past weekend. Looks like TRU paid extra to get a one month lead on the other retailers.
There has been a lot of buzz on some of the collector communities about how these have taken a drastic dip in quality. I don’t know about “drastic”but Hasbro is removing some of the articulation on The Avengers. Gone are the articulated ankles, wrists and waists. And these sacrifices weren’t made so that they could cut the costs we pay. If TRU is any indication,we’ll get another $1 increase across the retail board.
First wave of four figures is Larfleeze,Flashpoint Plastic Man,Superboy Prime in Anti Monitor armor and Batman Beyond. (Did they gather up all the unsold figures from Target and plan to repack them? Is Barda in the next wave?)

There was a time back in 1999 that I would go to certain movies just to see the trailers for the (then) forthcoming release of Star Wars:Episode 1 –The Phantom Menace! I have the feeling I was not alone and that films like Adam Sandler’s “The Waterboy”and the horrendous “Wing Commander”benefited more from over-zealous Star Wars fans than they did from audiences members legitimately interested in the respective films.
February 2012 will mark the re-release of the first of the Star Wars prequels in theatres–this time in 3D. Thanks to the wonders of the internet you no longer have to endure a Freddie Prince Jr film to see it.
